Great rugby team of the week: Kuenzle beats Harrison, Hooper pips Miller

The penultimate round is over and dusted off and the Super Rugby AU final is just around the corner.

But who made our Super Rugby AU Team of the Ninth Round Week?

1. Pek Cowan – strength

When the Force passed it on to the Brumbies in the first quarter of the game, it was in large part due to their forward pack, and their veteran support was at the forefront of that.

2. Jordan Uelese – rebels

The Wallabies hooker played 75 minutes and was tireless on the field.

He made 10 tackles without any mistakes and his set piece was solid.

3. Harry Johnson-Holmes

This man knows how to find the tryline, and Johnson-Holmes just keeps getting better with every passing game at tight head prop.

4. Rob Simmons – Waratahs

Was Simmons’ last game in Australian rugby? If the rebels beat power, it could well be the case.

It wasn’t a week of the week that a castle took a place on Team of the Week, especially when the likes of Matt Philip and Ned Hanigan got yellow cards, but Simmons was influential in the Waratahs’ endeavors, he was good at the lineout and got some post meters with the ball in hand.

5. Cadeyrn Neville – Brumbies

Newly signed to Australian rugby and underpinned by another strong performance for the Brumbies.

Neville was strong in the lineout, keeping an eye on his work around the jerk.

6. Fergus Lee-Warner – Force

Got the Force opener and keep doing business.

Lee-Warner made 57 meters and 10 tackles without a miss.

Wallabies smoky?

7. Michael Hooper – Waratahs

For the last hour, Hooper stood tall.

First, he set Joey Walton free to score, and second, his attack on Andrew Deegan ended up in the hands of Will Harrison, who also scored a crucial five-pointer.

8. Isi Naisarani – rebels

Two attempts, 16 transfers and eight tackles.

Do I have to say more?

9. Nic White – Brumbies

The Wallabies halfback came off the bench in the second half and immediately increased the pace.

White managed a line break, a line break wizard, and a try wizard.

10. Bayley Kuenzle – Brumbies

Summed up the situation of the game perfectly.

It was evident that the forces were grueling from the middle of the second half, and from that point on, Kuenzle ran to the line and turned the ball back inside out.

11. Tom Wright – Brumbies

Almost 100 linear meters (97) and three tackle busts and three offloads in his use on the wing.

Wright continues to hunt for the ball and looks right at home in rugby in 2020.

12. Matt First – Rebels

Without To’omua, the rebels will not receive any valuable bonus point.

To’omua’s step past two defenders and the precise pass to Marika Koroibete in the second half were great.

He kicked his targets and made his duels.

It was a knock from the captain.

13. Joey Walton – Waratahs

Walton moved back to the middle and looked a lot more comfortable playing in front of another straight runner.

His line to run on Hoopers Ball was a blast.

14. Andy Murihead – Brumbies

Just like Wright, Murihead continues to impress.

His hands are silky and most of all he knows how to find the tryline.

The right winger made 71 meters, three tackle busts, two offloads and a line break.

15. Tom Banks – Brumbies

Welcome back to starting Mr Banks.

Banks hasn’t looked quite this since he returned from COVID hiatus, but we finally saw him run free again.

Banks was bursting and appeared in the middle of the field. That paid off when he produced his best game of the season.

He covered a total of 94 meters, including seven tackle busts and seven tackles in defense.
