At the start of the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday, Sergio Perez’s car was destroyed, causing the race to be temporarily stopped.
An impressive crash. The Monaco Grand Prix, 8th round of the Formula 1 season, was interrupted on Sunday a few moments after the start due to a collision between several drivers.
The impressive accident involved Mexican Sergio Pérez – whose front wheels of his Red Bull were torn off – and the Haas of Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hulkenberg. According to the first images released, the three drivers emerged from their car unscathed.
The race was neutralized for the time to secure and clean the debris on the urban route of the Principality. For the moment, no decision has been announced on the time when the race will resume. Monegasque pole-sitter Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) was leading the race at the time of the interruption, ahead of Australian Oscar Piastri (McLaren).
Championship leader Max Verstappen (Red Bull) started 6th. The Dutchman, however, benefited from the setbacks of Carlos Sainz, 3rd on the grid but victim of a puncture shortly after the lights went out, to move up to 5th place.
