Pirelli used a degree of softer tires for this weekend than a week ago, which really shuffled the cards and well-established procedures in the qualification itself.
In the first part, only the drivers of Haas and Russell rode on the middle mixture, but they also quickly changed to soft.
In the second part, however, a more interesting battle took place. Most of the riders (except Russell) drove into the middle, Verstappen took a risk and even drove hard.
After the first attempts, Vettel and Hülkenberg in particular were bent over from the top. The Ferrari driver put soft for the second attempt, but still did not get into Q3. Hülkenberg kept the middle, corrected a mistake from the first attempt when he went off the track, and advanced safely.
Nevertheless, Q2 brought a surprise. They did not advance, among others, Ocon, Vettel, Sainz. Max Verstappen is the only one of the top ten to start on hard mixes.
In the third part of qualifying, Ricciardo and the Red Bull drivers preferred the middle mix. And it paid off. Ricciardo took third place, Verstappen was fifth and Albon was right behind him.
During the second attempts, Ricciardo remained at the middle. Mercedes also drove on the yellow-marked tires, and the red bulls put on soft ones again. Bottas had a second attempt more and beat Lewis Hamilton by 6 hundredths. Nico Hülkenberg took third place ahead of Ricciard.
Given that the current average corresponds to the soft of the UK GP, we can compare. Bottas’ time is surprisingly 0.851 s slower than Hamilton’s pole position.

15:08: In one tenth are Verstappen, Bottas, Hamilton.
15:04: In the end, only three riders (Haasy and Russell) on the middle, the rest on the soft.
15:01: And we don’t have to wait until Q2. The riders are already leaving for high school. So far only the Hulk on the soft.
14:58: But it will be very interesting for both Mercedes. Red Bull, Ferrari, Renault, Racing Point, McLaren. It will be a battle for the second and next row and also for the tires, because qualifying for Q3 on soft equals suicide …
14:57: The track has a temperature of 44 ° C and the rider with this number is the favorite in pole position. Only Valtteri Bottas or a technical or other problem can endanger him.
14:57: Welcome to the historically first and undoubtedly also the last qualification for the Grand Prix of the 70th anniversary of F1.
