Al Markhiya, under Bougherra’s leadership, relegated from Qatar Stars League

Last Sunday, the Al Markhiya team, under the leadership of Madjid Bougherra, suffered a decisive defeat at home in the play-off match against Al Shahaniya (1-3), thus marking its exit from the Qatar Stars League and its descent into Qatari second division.

It’s a hard blow for the Algerian coach Madjid Bougherra. Despite a promising end to the season, marked by good results, the Algerian coach could not save Al Markhiya from relegation, the team having finished in penultimate place in the standings, a precarious position it had held since its arrival last October.

To ensure its retention in the first division, Bougherra and his players had to win their last match against Al Shahaniya in a play-off match against a second-tier club. Unfortunately, despite the effort of Fettouhi who equalized for Al Markhiya in the 75th minute, the team ended up conceding two late goals (in the 83rd and 90th minutes), thus sealing their fate.

What future for Bougherra?

Now what’s next for Bougherra ? During this season, his team only managed to achieve 5 victories out of the 22 matches played (Bougherra arrived on the 6th day), conceding 3 draws and suffering 14 defeats in the regular season. With this relegation, it remains to be seen the position of the management of the Qatari club who have nevertheless noted the enormous progress of the team since the last winter transfer window and the arrival of players chosen by the former coach of the Algerian team A’ arrived during the season.
