A Barcelona player tested positive for coronavirus, but the club says it hasn’t been in contact with any of the teams competing in the Champions League.

Barcelona conducted coronavirus tests on nine players on Tuesday – Pedri, Trincao, Matheus Fernandes, Jean-Clair Todibo, Moussa Wague, Carles Alena, Rafinha, Juan Miranda and Oriol Busquets – who will return for pre-season training on Wednesday.

One of the nine – who was not named – returned a positive test. The club says he is asymptomatic and is in quarantine at home.

In a statement from the club, Barcelona added that the matter has been reported to health authorities and all recent contacts of the player have been monitored.

The nine players who have been tested are not part of the squad for the first team that will travel to Lisbon on Thursday for Barcelona’s Champions League quarter-finals against Bayern Munich on Friday.

The competition is concluding with a mini-tournament in Portugal, after being postponed to the round of 16 in March by the pandemic.

Atletico players isolate themselves after positive tests

Atletico Madrid, another Champions League quarter-final, will be without Angel Correa and Sime Vrsaljko for their round of 16 clash against RB Leipzig.

Correa and Vrsaljko both tested positive for the virus but are asymptomatic and self-isolate at home.

All other members of the Atleti team were re-tested on Sunday and returned negative results.
