Nico Hulkenberg was forced to leave Renault at the end of last season. The German’s contract was not renewed and he had to leave the field for Esteban Ocon. He was unable to get a new seat, so he was left on the side for at least a season.
Until, however, the corona virus was diagnosed with Racing Point driver Sergio Perez. Hulkenberg was flown in in a hurry and completed two British Grand Prix weekends. He did this with gusto, showing once again that he was not actually ready in Formula 1.
Next season, the German is only too happy to return to the top class of motorsport. This time, of course, not to fill in for someone, but to finish a full season.
Hulkenberg leaves in the podcast F1 Nation know that he has spoken extensively with the Alfa Romeo team in recent months. Team boss Fred Vasseur had the driver under his wing a long time ago and led the German to the title in the GP2 class in 2009.
