The implosion balances the Auburn Hills Palace, the former home of the Detroit Pistons

The arena, which once housed up to 23,000 people, was gutted to prepare for the implosion.
The crews used about 800 pounds of explosives to topple the roof of the building and the 22 pillars that supported it, CNN subsidiary WXYZ reported.

It took only a few seconds to tear down the building.

The Pistons played at the Palace of Auburn Hills from 1988 to 2017, winning all three NBA titles there. The Pistons’ infamous “Bad Boys” won titles in a row in 1989 and 1990, and the team angered the Los Angeles Lakers, led by Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal, in 2004.

The Pistons moved to a new arena in Detroit for the 2017 season and The Palace, as it was affectionately called, was sold.

Developers plan to convert the 110-hectare site into a mixed-use research and technology park.
