Fabbri, the blue throws at 22.88: it is the best performance of the year

Sensational performance by Leonardo Fabbri on his outdoor debut in the shot put: the Florentine pitcher silver at the world championships in Budapest 2023 and bronze at the indoor world championships in Glasgow 2024 achieved his own personal best with the incredible measurement of 22.88, just 3 centimeters from the legendary Italian record of Alessandro Andrei dating back to 1987, which until a few years ago appeared unattainable. For Fabbri there were also two more throws over 22 meters on a very humid day, in the rain and with a wet platform, while his friend and training partner Zane Weir finished in second place in the competition with a measurement of 21.93.

The previous limit of the Italian bowler was 22.37 got this winter indoor, while the outdoor one was 22.34 of the world silver medal in Budapest, but today’s measurement should not be surprising because the athlete himself had declared several times that he felt a measurement close to 23 meters was within his capabilities, by virtue of the feedback he had received during his training sessions. It is the best weight performance of the year in the world, seventh ever and third all time in Europe.
