After throwing 60 seats in a simulated game today, Jacob deGrom should be ready for the season opener on Friday. (Dan Martin of the New York Post was one of the people who reported the news.) While a simulated game is not a substitute for a real trip, deGrom’s strong results were encouraging, of course – he didn’t hit any of the players to 14 Batters faced each other and recorded nine strikeouts. Due to the tense supine position, deGrom left the Intrasquad game last Tuesday after only one inning of work, which led to new questions as to whether that Mets Ace would be ready for the start of the season.

- DeGrom isn’t the only star pitcher to show progress Yankees Right-handed Masahiro Tanaka looked good during a bullpen session today. Manager Aaron Boone George A. King III of the New York Post and other media said Tanaka is likely to face thugs next Tuesday. This would be the first time that Tanaka has been exposed to live thugs since being hit in the head by one Giancarlo Stanton Line drive on July 4th. Fortunately, Tanaka only escaped with a slight concussion, and if he continues to rehabilitate well, Tanaka can only miss a start. “It is possible that he can start rotating at the end of the second ride,” King writes.
- Aaron Hicks was operated on by Tommy John last October, but Bryan Hoch of MLB.com said his right elbow “feels good now, ”And he’s up to speed to do that Yankees” Opening roster. Throwing was a special source of improvement, as Hicks said: “The ball came out really well last week. I feel like I could carry my ball much better, especially when I threw it home [plate]. ”
- Also from Hoch’s note piece, Luis Cessa has arrived on YankeesSummer camp after recovery from COVID-19. The right-hander tested positive before arriving at the camp and underwent the standard two-week quarantine procedure and two consecutive negative test results before joining his teammates. Cessa has played catch today and will drop a hill on Monday, although it is not yet clear whether he will be ready for the Yankees’ first game.
- Robert Gsellman fought with tightness in his right triceps, Mets Manager Luis Rojas told Anthony DiComo from MLB.com and other reporters. While Gsellman started playing catch on flat ground, Rojas wasn’t sure if Gsellman would be available for the opening service. The right-hander has been a workhorse for the Mets for the past two seasons. He threw 143 1/3 relief innings and scored an ERA of 4.45, a rate of 2.55 K / BB and 8.1 K / 9. Gsellman missed six weeks last season with a similar injury, despite Rojas said: “There is nothing to worry about in the past. ”
