You should ask someone with the chargers

Five-time NFL MVP Peyton Manning recently surprised Denver Nuggets players with a Zoom call an hour before the NBA season resumes. The retired quarterback – who played his last four seasons with the Denver Broncos – is known for his jokes and sense of humor, and trolled the Los Angeles Chargers with an attendance joke during the ‘Zoom call.

As the NBA prepares to play in empty arenas in the Orlando bubble, a Nuggets player asked Manning what it is like to play games without fans.

According to Mason Plumlee, the great man of the Nuggets, Manning replied, “I’m just not the only one answering this question. You’ll probably have to ask someone with the Chargers or one of those other teams.

Another player asked Manning for suggestions on playing in an arena without fans, like the Nuggets are expected to do in Orlando.

“It was like,” I’m not the only one answering this question, “” said Plumlee. “‘You will probably have to ask someone with the Chargers or one of these other teams.’ …

It’s a hell of a burn.

The Chargers had well-documented issues with participation and fan support after owner Dean Spanos moved the organization to San Diego in 2017. They even had to cover empty sections of the stadium, which is a football stadium – now called Dignity Health Sports Park – which only has a capacity of about 30,000 people.

Maybe attendance will eventually improve – but not in 2020, of course – with the Chargers’ sophisticated new home, SoFI Stadium (which will be shared with the Rams). But for now, jokes like Manning’s are holding up very well and only adding to the embarrassment for Spanos since the move.
