The vote for the 2019-20 NBA performance awards will take into account games played up to and including March 11, according to a report by Stadium’s Shams Charania and The Athletic on Friday.
Among the reports that matches played as part of the NBA restart did not count towards awarding prizes, Milwaukee Bucks head coach Mike Budenholzer said Gians Antetokounmpo, Bucks superstar, for his second NBA MVP award.
Budenholzer told reporters the following on Friday, for ESPN’s Eric Woodyard:
“I had no idea it was like that, but it makes sense. I think it was 64, 65, 66 games for different teams, so this is certainly a significant body of work, and above all, Giannis, in our minds, has done more than enough to deserve a back-to-back MVP.
“What he does for us on both sides of the pitch, what he does every night, the way he sets us the point of view, as regards culture, work ethic, just like a teammate. He’s an incredible teammate, he plays selflessly, he does everything. And I think that’s what MVP is a bit, so we definitely feel very deserving and we will be excited to support him. “
The NBA has been suspended since March 11 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but will return to Walt Disney World near Orlando, Florida, starting July 30. Each of the 22 participating teams will take part in eight regular season games before a 16-team postseason to end the year.
