Eagles give up at the end to make room for Jason Peters’ signing

The Philadelphia Eagles gave up tight end Alex Ellis to make room for Jason Peters in their 90-player roster, according to an official team announcement.

I’m at least a little surprised that the Eagles split from Ellis. I recently wrote about how he was lucky enough to push for tight third place behind Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert.

This offseason would have marked Ellis’ first full tank at Philly since he originally joined the Eagles last August. It would have been interesting to watch him since he showed good flashes during training and preparatory matches last year. He demonstrated his ability as a catcher, a blocker (Eagles used him as a back in certain goal line situations in the regular season) and a special team contributor. Maybe Ellis can still do enough to be on the team this year. It is my preference for tight third place.

With Ellis gone, the Eagles are now just four tight ends: Ertz, Goedert, former promotion team training Josh Perkins and free recruit recruit who signed Noah Togiai. These last two players could now compete for a place in the lineup, with the more experienced Perkins having the advantage.

The Eagles originally announced the signing of Peters Tuesday morning. He is listed as a goalkeeper on the official Philadelphia page.

The Eagles’ training camp is scheduled to start in 11 days on July 28, but it remains to be seen if there will be any delays. There may be other list adjustments before camp.
