“Mercedes is out of reach” – Charles Leclerc shows low expectations for the Austrian Grand Prix

Charles Leclerc of Scuderia Ferrari believes that the team must remain “positive” after a difficult qualifying for the Austrian GP. However, Leclerc claimed that Ferrari hadn’t expected miracles in Sunday’s race. In addition, Monegasque admitted that the silver arrows were “out of reach”.

Charles Leclerc: We don’t expect miracles

At the 2019 Austrian Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc took an impressive pole position to maintain Ferrari’s dominance over the rest of the grid. Yesterday the 22-year-old barely made it into the third quarter and ended the session with a disappointing seventh place.

Last year, Ferrari dominated the weekend with a car and an engine that were slightly above the competition. Mercedes had problems cooling its drive and Ferrari just looked untouchable.

A year later the tables turned and how the mighty fell. After all the story about the legality of Ferrari’s engines, the team has lost its speed. Ferrari’s straightforward performance was nowhere to be found compared to its competitors and applied to all Ferrari vehicles.

While these are still early days, there is a major cause for concern. In the event of a shortened championship season, Ferrari could lose again to Mercedes. Even podiums currently seem unlikely.

“Unfortunately, we are here right now, so we have to work and start building a better car for the future.Said Charles Leclerc as quoted by F1.com.

“We cannot be demoralized by today’s result, but today’s result does not meet our expectations. We are nowhere near where we expected it to be.

“Tomorrow we can collect points. We do not expect miracles, they will not come safely, but we will do our best with what we have and continue to work as well as possible for the upcoming races. “

“There is an opportunity to do better than today, but the Mercedes are out of our reach,” he said. “We will give our all, as a driver and as a team, and we will try to improve the order as much as possible.”

Since Ferrari starts well in order, fans can only hope that miracles will end on Sunday.
