Caroline Wozniacki has just retired from tennis in the 2020 Australian Open. But her stature in Denmark is enormous. She is the only Danish to have won a Grand Slam when she defeated Simona Halep in the 2018 Australian Open final. She also reached world ranking no. 1. And many young Danish players watch it.

Danish fledgling player Holger Rune talked about his influence. He is 17 years old and won the junior French Open last year. He participated in the Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS). UTS is a league started by coach Patrick Mouratoglou. And in its first season that ended last week, it was a huge success.
Rune joined Matteo Berrettini last week. He played Corentin Moutet. The seventeen year old showed great maturity but lost in a hard fought game. After the game, Rune sat down for a press conference and told Wozniacki’s EsseniallySports reporter.

Rune claims that Wozniacki is a great player and model for tennis players in Denmark. Wozniacki turned 30 last week and on the same day, Rune played his first game at the UTS. He thought it was a shame not to be able to win on his birthday.
“I think it’s great. She’s a great player and a great person. She won a great slam that I don’t think any Danish player won, so I think it’s nice to have her as a model for tennis in Denmark. And now she stopped and was playing a lot well until retirement. So that’s great. Unfortunately I couldn’t win today, so it would have been a better birthday for her. “ Rune said
Wozniacki had lost a couple of finals before winning a very tough final against Halep. And from then on his victory gave new inspirations to young players like Rune.
