French Duo Rudy Gobert and Victor Wembanyama Shine in NBA’s All-NBA Defensive First Team

The two French interiors appear, unsurprisingly, in the best defensive five of the 2023-24 NBA season.

One more individual reward for them. Rudy Gobert, voted best defender of the 2023-24 season, and his runner-up Victor Wembanyama, appear in the NBA’s “All-NBA Defensive first team”, as revealed by the American league on Tuesday evening. The French pivot from the Minnesota Timberwolves and his friend from the San Antonio Spurs are accompanied by Bam Adebayo (Miami Heat), Anthony Davis (Los Angeles Lakers) and Herb Jones (New Orleans Pelicans).

Gobert, 31, inherits this award for the 7th time in his career. Wembanyama, 20, was also unanimously voted rookie of the year for his first season in the NBA. In the second typical defensive team for the 2023-24 fiscal year, we find Jrue Holiday (Boston Celtics), Derrick White (Boston Celtics), Alex Caruso (Chicago Bulls), Jalen Suggs (Orlando Magic) and Jaden McDaniels (Minnesota Timberwolves ).

Since this season, the NBA has abolished the obligation to respect the different positions (outside players and inside players) for its typical teams, hence the presence of four players who can be considered pivotal in the best defensive five. Gobert’s Timberwolves kick off their Western Conference final against the Dallas Mavericks this Wednesday evening.
