Hecking and HSV end cooperation

Dieter Hecking’s time at Hamburger SV has expired. The expiring contract of the trainer will not be extended by mutual agreement.

After experienced trainer Dieter Hecking there is now a newcomer: Daniel Thioune is the new trainer of Hamburger SV. This clearly shows the new direction of the club.

Daniel Thioune is the new coach for the second division soccer team Hamburger SV. The 45-year-old coach of league rival VfL Osnabrück will succeed Dieter Hecking at HSV, whose contract, which expired on June 30, was not extended after the missed promotion. The Hanseatic confirmed the commitment on Monday.

Since Thioune’s contract in Osnabrück was still valid for one season, the Hamburgers had to pay the transfer fee due according to an exit clause of supposedly 300,000 euros for the ex-professional. From Osnabrück it was agreed not to disclose the transfer modalities. Previously, several media had consistently reported on the personnel.

Thioune, who has worked for VfL since 2013, had previously trained the U17 and U19 there and was also a coordinator for young talent. After promotion and remaining in the class with VfL, he wants to take the next step in his career. Last week, the HSV reportedly contacted Thioune in parallel with the separation talks with Hecking. The coach was also interested in HSV city rival FC St. Pauli, it is said. The Kiezkicker are looking for a new coach after the separation from Jos Luhukay.

Thioune, who is considered a player developer, is said to have become a favorite at HSV after the first conversation. The son of a Senegalese and a German has the prerequisites to put together a powerful and hungry team despite the announced reduction in the team budget by seven million euros. At VfL Osnabrück Thioune had only a mini budget available, but he still led the promoted to 13th place at the VfB Lübeck, Thioune had played under coach Dieter Hecking from 2002 to 2004 – and is now following him as HSV coach.

“Failed as a whole”

Hamburger SV once again gambles away the promotion and remains second-class for another season. A draw against SV Sandhausen would have been enough, but HSV conceded an embarrassing clap. Trainer Dieter Hecking is served. You started as a “big whole” and so you failed.
