BROADCAST HIGHLIGHTS

2014: Kansas City Chiefs @ Indianapolis Colts – 8 p.m., NFL Network

While 28-3 will remain the GOAT of the NFL returns, there have been other epic playoff returns, such as this January 2015 Colts and Chiefs thriller, which saw Alex Smith and his company take a monstrous advance. Then Jamaal Charles was injured. Andy Reid did his usual thing of Andy Reid. And Andrew Luck went to work.

NO NEP OBJ

With Cam Newton joining the Patriots, the buzz and sex appeal of the Foxboro football franchise has soared. Expectations are higher. Total Super Bowl wins and odds are increased. And there have been rumors of friends or former teammates wanting to join Newton and Belichick. But it looks like a Pro Bowl player won’t be asking for a uniform change to play alongside Superman. Odell Beckham, Jr., who had previously been linked to the Patriots, went to the Twitter machine to take down any rumor of a request to call One Patriot Place his new workplace. Looks like OBJ and Cam did some off-season training together, and with those whispers that Beckham wanted out of Cleveland, you can see why some people thought the Patriots would be a logical destination. Alas, he will have to pursue his dream in The Land. And Cam and his new BFF WR, a motivated Mohamed Sanu, will have to try to make 12 consecutive AFC East Championships themselves.

FOXBORO FASHION SHOW

People are still buzzing about Cam Newton’s outfit when they arrive in Boston. Oh, we’re not talking about how it happened, or its potential with the Patriots. We’re talking about the outfit he was wearing, a kind of muscular Hamburgler romper. Of course, the outfit that people are looking forward to seeing is Newton in a Pats jersey. Dummies and photoshop flew fast and furious last week.

Speaking of Photoshop … what about his post-game outfit? For a fearless fashion plate like Newton, it would fit perfectly with its new home crowd.

BECAUSE WE NEED IT

More like “Because we need it for decades”! Seriously, has it been so easy from the start?

ON THIS DATE IN THE HISTORY OF BOSTON SPORTS

87 years ago today, the first MLB All Star Game (slogan, “This time matters! Because it’s the first time!”) Took place in Chicago, IL. An old timekeeper named George Herman Ruth hit the first circuit. Never heard of him personally. I guess he played for the Sox for a hot minute?
