Grayson Murray retires from 3M Open after a positive COVID-19 test

Grayson Murray retired from 3M Open after testing positive for COVID-19.

Murray went to Instagram to share that he felt bad while he was at home last week, fighting “migraine symptoms, runny nose and loss of smell / taste”. He expected to leave for the Minnesota event on Saturday morning, but instead received a quick coronavirus test and learned on Friday night that he had the virus. He retired Monday and was replaced in field 3M by Brendon de Jonge.

“I will isolate myself at home and follow the guidelines of the PGA Tour so that I can get back on the pitch as soon as possible,” Murray wrote. “If I’ve been around you for the past week and you’re starting to feel some symptoms, please take the test!”

The victory of the Murray PGA Tour came to the 2017 Barbasol Championship. The 26-year-old earned his card last year at the Korn Ferry Tour finals and scored a top-10 this season, after finishing tenth in the American Express in January. He has played four times since the Tour returned from the break, missing two cuts and retiring twice. His last appearance arrived at the Workday Charity Open two weeks ago, when he retired during the second round citing a back injury.

Murray becomes the seventh player on the PGA Tour to be positive for COVID-19, and the first since Chad Campbell retired from the Rocket Mortgage Classic on June 30th. Other Tour players who tested positive are Nick Watney, Cameron Champ, Denny McCarthy, Dylan Frittelli and English Harris.
