Dustin Brown nails the volley to prevail over UTS2

When Dustin Brown is on the pitch, the unexpected can always be expected.

On Sunday, the German ran the most endearing end of the Ultimate Tennis Showdown so far in spite of Corentin Moutet.

After taking the fourth quarter to force sudden death, Brown saved a meeting point before leaving to overthrow the Frenchman. At the pair’s end point, Brown kept Moutet nailed behind the bottom line with a deep shot of the ball, but gave the left passerby a chance to go on the net.

Moutet put enough air on the ball to give Brown the opportunity to pull out his inner Boris Becker on a hard court. His execution on the front dive volleyball? At 10/10.

“When you hit the ball, you have to decide,” said Brown. “At a point like the one where a point really matters, I was like ‘I’m diving. I don’t care if I can do it, I can’t do it.

“I think it’s been my best performance so far, since I’ve been here.”

By winning, “The Artist” prevented Moutet from going 2-0 in the Group B round-robin. If Fernando Verdasco were to defeat Benoit Paire, all four players will remain ahead 1-1 on the first leg next Saturday. Brown went 2-6 during the inaugural edition of UTS.
