LEICESTER’s inability to secure football in the Champions League is bound to cost them the chance to convince Ben Chilwell that his future remains in the club.
Chelsea and Manchester United are interested in the star of England.
The Foxes had hoped to be able to offer top-tier European football as a carrot to get him to stay at King Power.
But their collapse at the end of the season saw the best four slipping between their fingers with the two suitors of Chilwell, 23, who cut instead.
There would be more money to offer if Chilwell pushed for a move, but that’s not the only factor making a decision.
He also wants to consolidate his place as England’s first-choice left-back with the looming euro – and Champions League football helps his cause.
But manager Brendan Rodgers has been registered to announce that Chilwell is not for sale.
He said: “He is not a player we want to lose. I am quite relaxed. I’m not worried at all.
“We have a fantastic team that we want to keep together, so I don’t worry.
“You can rotate it however you like. There is no intention of selling Ben Chilwell and it is not absolutely necessary that we sell Ben Chilwell.
“If you want a message, the message is that it’s not for sale.”
Leicester has decided not to permanently sign Wolves defender Ryan Bennett.
The foxes had the option to buy it for £ 5 million but will now return to Molineux.
