What’s going on with Mesut Ozil at Arsenal?
So what is going on with Mesut Ozil at Arsenal? Do you have a future under Mikel Arteta? Or will this be painfully resolved until your contract expires?
The 31-year-old German, who still has one year of his current contract with Arsenal left, does not seem to be part of Arteta’s plans for the Emirates, having not played a single minute since the Premier League started again.
Ozil played regularly before the coronavirus stopped football, raising doubts as to why the midfielder is now suddenly unlucky.
Sky Sports experts Paul Merson and Alan Smith expressed their views on the situation, both feeling that it is too late for Ozil to change his game to adapt to Arsenal.

Smith: strong management of Arteta
The former arsenal forward Alan Smith he believes that Arteta has shown strong management in not collecting Ozil in recent games, but he fears that this process may be resolved over the next year, with a lack of clubs interested in signing it and paying his gigantic salaries …

“It appears that Arteta wants to draw a line under it, and convince the players that it’s not part of the plans, and he passed the dollar to Ozil and said, ‘What do you want to do about it?’ We hope that leaving the club would be Arteta’s reasoning, which would free up some money in terms of wages.
“It will always be a talking point as long as Ozil is at the club. I don’t know if anything could happen in this transfer window, there are not too many connections with any club. We could end up having this situation for another year until the expiration of the his contract. He may get used to it from time to time, but he won’t be a key figure in his plans.
“It is something that Arteta could have done without. She has enough on her plate, without constant questions about the future of the German. But Arteta is decisive; if he decides that someone does not go ahead, no matter how much they earn, he will not choose them. It is strong management and I think Arsenal needs it.
Both Merson and Smith believe that Ozil cannot change his game to adapt to Arsenal’s current situation
“Can he adapt to Arsenal? No, I don’t think so. This is an era at the club where everyone really has to dig and work incredibly hard from the ball. Ozil is too long in the tooth to change his game now, and I don’t think is physically capable of doing what Arteta wants me to do.
“It could be another year before he leaves the club, but I can’t see much future for him.”

“My main feeling would be just the confusion about Ozil. That wouldn’t be a new feeling either.
“Arsenal fans often seem quite divided on Ozil. There are those who want to know what’s going on on Earth, who want to know how Arteta will use it, who want to know why he doesn’t always perform every week, those who don’t like the his body language. And then there are those who go back to the lessons that are shown to him in an Arsenal shirt and wonder if he will do it again.
“Ozil has been at Arsenal for seven years. It’s longer than Robert Pires was at Arsenal. It’s only a year less than Thierry Henry’s main period. When you think about it, it’s been a long time waiting for Ozil to prove that he can really add to this part of Arsenal every week, against any opposition, anytime.
“He has an age when I don’t think he can change his game, and Arsenal won’t change their style at a time when they have to build from behind in blocks.”
