Video: Highlights from the opening of the Baltic Highway Championship

Last weekend in Lithuania, the first stage of the Baltic and Latvian highway championship took place on the “Nemuno Žiedas” track, where athletes from Latvia celebrated the victories in several classes.

Due to an emergency situation, the highway season started much later than usual, but it was not an obstacle to gather 60 participants in the first stage of the championship. On the fast and challenging Kaunas track, Latvian athletes climbed the podium in several test classes.

The multiple Latvian and Baltic highway champion and “Sports Racing Technologies” team leader Ģirts Krūzmanis has returned to motorsport after a break of several years. In the competition in Lithuania, he showed that he is still in great shape, winning the “BTC1” class, cars with an engine capacity of up to 1600ccm, as well as being able to show good performance even in comparison with the fastest “BTC2” class cars.

In the newly created budget monoclass “BMW 325 Cup”, Lithuanian athletes were very fast on their home track, but Matīss Mežaks was able to find a way to win the second place in the class, giving way to only one of the most titled Lithuanian drivers Ramūnas Čapkauskas. Fifth place in the stage for highway debutant Andris Chats.

Lithuanian Jūlijs Skirmants celebrated the victory in “BTC2” class. The only representative of Latvia in this class, Atis Veismanis, fifth place. Lithuanian driver Aurims Mištauts celebrated a convincing victory in “BTC3” class.

The Latvian team “Team Rexona Men” with pilots Jānis Vankas and Marek Matvejevas, thanks to the professional approach to the competition and excellent pace on the track, won the third place in the “Nankang Endurance Academy” two-hour endurance competition.

In the “Volga” class, the fastest pilot in the Latvian championship on the difficult Lithuanian track turned out to be Jānis Grope. Harry Ulpe celebrated the victory in the VAZ class.

The second stage of the Baltic Motorway Championship will take place on July 26 at Biķernieki track, where the fastest GT class athletes from the Baltic States and Finland will also gather. But in the BMW 325 Cup class, 15 participants will already be able to see the start.
