Cardinals cut off rookie receiver after being arrested for driving a car in Lake Erie

The Arizona Cardinals officially eliminated rookie receiver Jeremiah Braswell on Monday after being arrested for allegedly driving his car in Lake Erie while intoxicated. According to WFMJ, the former Youngstown State receiver was arrested for driving a vehicle while intoxicated because a breath test showed that his blood alcohol level was above the legal limit.

Put-in-Bay police responded to a call around 6:30 p.m. Saturday about a car that drove into Lake Erie, according to a news release. Police said an orange Camaro was on the dock and in the water when they arrived, and that no spectator was injured in the incident. Witnesses also told police that the driver was still in the car, trying to drive it while it was in the water. When the police approached Braswell, he reportedly told the police that he was stuck and did not know what had happened.

Police said Braswell’s speech was disrupted and he could not explain how his vehicle ended up in the water. He then submitted to field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest. Braswell played wide receiver for Youngstown State between 2015 and 2019. According to the Youngstown State official website, Braswell recorded 51 receptions for 986 yards and 11 touchdowns in 40 career games. He finished his college career on a positive note as he grabbed a career high of 24 passes for 515 yards and seven touchdowns.

After going undrafted earlier this season, Braswell announced on Twitter that he had signed with the Cardinals organization. According to 12News, Braswell claims to have become famous: he helped Central Catholic High School win an Ohio State championship in his last year and chose Joe Burrow, the top pick in the game.
