Holder Manchester City reached the FA Cup semi-finals on Sunday after Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling won an undisturbed 2-0 win in Newcastle.

City took the Premier League title for runaway champions Liverpool this week and has to beat 13-time FA Cup winners Arsenal to reach another cup final. In the draw on Sunday, Chelsea meet the twelve-time winner Manchester United in the other semi-finals.

The games will take place in Wembley from July 18-19, with no fans present.

Chelsea won 1-0 last Sunday in Leicester, and Arsenal needed a second-time winner to take a 2-1 win at Sheffield United.

The city’s victory was far more comfortable.

De Bruyne gave City the lead in the 37th minute of a dominant first half from the penalty spot. Dwight Gayle missed a great opportunity to equalize for Newcastle in the middle of the second half and shot Allan Saint-Maximin from close range.

It was a rare opportunity for Steve Bruce and an expensive miss when Sterling hit a moment later and, after a quick counter attack, shot a shot from the edge of the box in the 68th minute.

Substitute players made the difference for Chelsea and Arsenal.

Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley turned a cross from Willian in the 63rd minute.

Spanish midfielder Dani Ceballos scored a low shot in the 91st for Arsenal, just four minutes after David McGoldrick equalized from close range.

Striker Nicolas Pépé’s penalty put Arsenal in the middle of the first half after United midfielder John Lundstram ruled out an early offside header. Defender John Egan’s header at the start of the second half was also blocked, much to the frustration of home fans.

Man United defeated Norwich 2-1 in the other quarter-finals on Saturday.

In Sunday’s only Premier League game, striker Danny Ings scored two goals and scored 18 goals when Southampton won 3-1 in fighting Watford.

Ings scored in each half to score a goal behind top scorer Jamie Vardy, who has a thin spell for third place in Leicester.

Southampton moved up one place to 13th, 13 points ahead of the relegation zone. However, 16th place in Watford remains one point above the drop zone with six games remaining.
