“Virat Kohli is a leader”: Why Irfan Pathan would have loved to play cricket under the current Indian captain

Irfan Pathan started his career in December 2003 under the captain of Sourav Ganguly. Over the years, he played under several captains. He made his T20I debut under Captain Virender Sehwag in 2006. He played the 2007 ODI World Championship under Rahul Dravid. Pathan was part of the Indian T20I World Cup winning team in 2007 under Mahendra Singh Dhoni. His last test for India was in 2008 under the captain of Anil Kumble. Irfan, who played his last international game in October 2012, never played under Virat Kohli.

Even in the Indian Premier League, Pathan has played for several teams including Kings XI Punjab, Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), Sunrisers Hyderabad, Chennai Super Kings, Rising Pune Supergiant and Gujarat Lions. But he never played for Royal Challengers Bangalore and therefore never played under Kohli’s leadership.

In a recent interaction, Irfan Pathan explained why he would have liked to play under Virat Kohli’s captain. “I don’t know if it would be fair to say in one line. I would have loved to play under Virat Kohli’s captain, ”he said in an Instagram live interaction with ESPNCricinfo presenter Raunak Kapoor.

“He is the captain who supports his players. He does everything to support his players. He is actually the definition of what a “leader” is, he is a leader, “he added.

Meanwhile, Pathan talked about MS Dhoni’s captain on the Star Sports cricket connected show, saying the seasoned wicket keeper has matured as a captain over the years. Pathan, who played under Dhoni during some of India’s greatest triumphs – the T20 World Cup win in 2007, the CB Series win in Australia a few months later and the Champions Trophy 2013 itself – showed that most things about his captain still exist Even so, Dhoni had become much calmer when the CT came over.

“In 2013 he was a lot calmer. It was the first time in 2007 and you understand that when you take on a great responsibility for running the country, you are always happy about certain things. Obviously, the meetings were always smaller in 2007 and there were no differences in terms of 5-minute meetings at the Champions Trophy 2013, ”said Pathan.
