Genk Coach Wouter Vrancken Frustrated After Third Blow to Bruges Team

The third blow in a row against a Bruges team is too much. Wouter Vrancken hammered on the match plan against Cercle Brugge for a whole week, but saw nothing of it on Saturday evening. That stirs up emotions from the Genk coach. “It would still be wrong if it weren’t there,” he responded immediately after the 4-1 defeat.

“I’ve been hammering on it for a whole week,” Wouter Vrancken slightly shakes his head immediately after the match in Jan Breydel.

“We had to match the intensity of Cercle. Only then can you create spaces and get something out of them. Because they were there, but if you don’t want to fight for them, you don’t use them.”

This way, Cercle Brugge was able to play football freely at times on the way to a painful result for KRC Genk. “There must always be a base of intensity, but it wasn’t there today,” continues an emotional coach.

“It should still be wrong that there are no emotions after such a match.”

This has nothing to do with the feet or good football, but with showing willpower.

Wouter Vrancken

Has the spring broken in Limburg after Club Brugge’s double blow, which meant the end of their title dream?

“Not at all,” says Vrancken. “My players simply had to take responsibility again to fill the spaces. All in all, it was just not enough today.”

So the T1 gave his group a sermon on the lawn in Bruges.

“I said that you can lose if things go badly. That is human. But this has nothing to do with your feet or good football, but with showing willpower. That was our strength in the regular season.”

Now – three heavy defeats later – Genk seems to be on the verge.
