Kalev / Cramo has reached an oral agreement with Schtelmaher and his assistants

Estonia’s strongest basketball club, coached by Robert Štelmaher and Axel Vairog and represented by Aigars Šķēle, Tallinn’s Kalev / Cramo, has broken contracts with players, asking questions about the club’s future.

Although at the end of March there was no person in the team with a contract, the owners of the club already at that time expressed hope that it would continue to exist.

Estonian public broadcaster ERR reports that the club’s financial situation has started to improve, as a result of which the unit needs coaches. The Tallinn unit has decided to stick to the current core of specialists, reaching an oral agreement with Stelmacher, as well as his assistants Shield and Reinbok.

“An oral agreement has been reached, but the final formalities are still being discussed with the coach’s agent,” Ramo Kasks, the unit’s general manager, told the club in a conversation with Delfi. “Stelmacher wants to include a clause in the contract that he could leave in the middle of the season with a good offer, but we don’t want that option.”

It is also known that the former head coach Alars Varaks will remain in the club system, who will pass on his experience to the new specialists of the “SK Nord” academy. Varaks is also the head of the basketball department.

Last season, Štelmahers led the team in the VTB United League and the Estonian-Latvian Basketball League and local championship. In all tournaments, the season ended prematurely due to a coronavirus pandemic.

In the VTB Championship, the team with eight wins in 20 games took fifth place in the tournament table and was in a good position to enter the playoffs. In the combined championship “Kalev” / “Cramo” took the third place, which was the best result among Estonian teams.
