Spanish finalist Espanyol is ready for fourth trainer of the season | NOW

Espanyol is ready for the fourth trainer of the season. La Liga has been fired last Saturday by Abelardo Fernández (photo), Abelardo for short, due to the bad results.

Fifty-year-old Abelardo, who played for FC Barcelona for years, is succeeded by Francisco Rufete, seven years his junior. Rufete played for Espanyol between 2006 and 2009 and played the most games in his career for Valencia.

Espanyol started the season with David Gallego at the helm, who had only been hired in June last year. The Spaniard had to make way for his countryman Pablo Machin in early October, who was replaced by Abelardo just before Christmas.

It seems to be an almost impossible job for the new coach Rufete to save Espanyol from relegation. The second club of Barcelona is last and eight points behind in the safe seventeenth place.

There are still nine rounds to go in La Liga. Espanyol’s next game is on Sunday, when league-leader Real Madrid comes to visit.
