David Luiz made a “significant” cut in wages to stay with Arsenal, which allowed the Gunners to also renew Pablo Mari and Cedric Soares’ contracts.
Brazilian Luiz signed a new one-year contract in the Emirates that coincided with Defense colleagues Mari and Cedric, who established the “Is” according to their own new agreements.
However, according to the Telegraph, the latter two long-term deals could only be closed because the former Chelsea star agreed to cut his wages.
Luiz was suspected of playing his last game for the Gunners after a horror appearance against Manchester City, but his selfless gesture will keep him at the club for a second season.

According to Sportrac, Luiz had previously signed a £ 125,000-a-week contract, with only top earners Mesut Ozil, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Nicolas Pepe earning more.
Technical Director Edu announced the deals and said: “I am very happy that we will have these players in our team for the future.
“They were part of the long-term technical plan that Mikel and I developed. They bring the right balance to our squad.
“David is a really important player for us. He played most of our games this season and was important to the team. His death, his communication with the team on and off the field. He helps everyone.
“With Pablo, we are all disappointed that he injured himself in Manchester City. Since arriving here, Mikel has asked for a central defender who is on the left foot.
“We were very happy with Pablo – his behavior, his training, his mentality and his quality. Unfortunately he has this injury, but of course we are very happy to keep him for the future.
“Cedric will also be an important player. He was unlucky with the injuries but is about to be ready and gives us more strength in the right back position.”
