Coronavirus: Carlos Bilardo was transferred to a cl …

Carlos Salvador Bilardo was transferred to the Argentine Institute of Diagnosis and Treatment (IADT) after testing positive for coronavirus in the last hours, as a consequence of an outbreak of infections in the nursing home where he lived, in the Almagro neighborhood.

The DT world champion with the Selection in Mexico ’86 and runner-up in Italy ’90, is “with a good general picture and totally asymptomatic”, according to those close to his family.

At IADT, Bilardo underwent a new swab and other rigorous studies and, at the request of his relatives, he will have general medical exams on Monday.

The also emblem of Estudiantes de La Plata had already been tested by covid-19 a few weeks ago as a result of the appearance of several cases in The Senior Home residence, but then it had given negative.

In early June, the same residence had been targeted for the coronavirus death of an 80-year-old woman and eight more positive cases (four residents and four employees).

In the last hours, a viral outbreak in that place infected more people, including the nurse who was taking care of him, who would have been the transmitting vehicle for the contagion of the former coach.

Bilardo, 82, remained in the nursing home because he has had Hakim-Adams syndrome for some years, a neurological disease. This disease is the only one related to dementia that can be cured with a surgical intervention and that is why in 2018 they placed a valve that serves to drain the fluid from the brain and direct it to the abdominal cavity, where it is reabsorbed naturally.
