American forward Jake Forrester has quickly secured a new roster spot with Promitheas Patras in Greece for the 2026/27 season, just under an hour after the SIG Strasbourg basketball club announced he had been released from training while searching for a new professional opportunity.
Rapid Transition to the Greek Basket League
The swift move ends a brief stint in France for Forrester, who played only one official match for SIG Strasbourg. That appearance came during an 11-minute outing in a loss against Dijon, where he recorded five points. Following the match, Strasbourg head coach Janis Gailitis openly criticized the player’s lack of commitment to the Alsace squad.
Realizing a mutual separation was best for all parties, Strasbourg front office personnel moved quickly to part ways with the American big man. Less than an hour after the club’s official statement, Promitheas Patras confirmed via social media channels that Forrester had signed into their 2026/27 squad.

Familiar Territory in Greek Basketball
The transfer brings Forrester back to a familiar level of competition. Over the previous two professional seasons, the forward played in Greece, featuring for fierce Thessaloniki rival clubs PAOK and Aris. Returning to the Greek championship offers the American an environment where he has already established his game and physical presence.
In Patras, Forrester will team up with former Chalon player Zac Cuthbertson. Together, the frontcourt duo will tackle domestic competition as well as the FIBA Europe Cup. Forrester is already well-acquainted with the latter tournament, having reached the final in 2025 during his tenure with PAOK.
Strasbourg Scrambles for Frontcourt Reinforcements
While Forrester settles into his new surroundings in Greece, SIG Strasbourg faces an intense time crunch. Less than a week remains before the French club begins its Basketball Champions League (BCL) campaign against Legia Warsaw.
