Esteban Silva secured a silver medal for the Neuquén delegation in the mixed team recurve archery event at the XIII South American Games in Rosario, rounding out a notable campaign for regional athletes at the multi-sport regional competition.
Silver for Silva and Pueyo in Recurve Archery
Competing alongside partner Alma Pueyo, Neuquén’s Esteban Silva earned a hard-fought silver medal in the mixed team recurve archery division. The Argentine duo advanced through the elimination rounds with steady performances at the Rosario venue. In the quarterfinals, Silva and Pueyo defeated the Peruvian team 5-1, securing set scores of 35-35, 35-29, and 38-32.
The semifinal match presented a tighter contest against Panama. The Argentine pair edged through after trading points across four sets, finishing with scores of 33-33, 37-36, and 37-33 to book their place in the gold medal match.
In the final duel, the Brazilian duo of Ana Caetano and Marcus Dalmeiro proved decisive. The Brazilian pair claimed the gold with set scores of 35-31, 38-35, and 36-31, leaving Silva and Pueyo with the silver.
Neuquén Delegations Close Out Strong Regional Campaign
Beyond the archery podium, several other athletes from Neuquén posted strong finishes in the closing days of the Rosario games. Zapala athlete Baigorria placed fifth in the women’s hammer throw with a mark of 57.45 meters, an event won by Colombia’s Gaviria. Meanwhile, Matías Contreras concluded his run in the KX kayak cross final by taking fourth place.
These results finalized the medal count for the Neuquén contingent at the XIII South American Games. The delegation’s campaign featured three gold medals: Benjamín Gader in roller sports, José Luis Acuña in taekwondo, and Facundo Chávez in Valorant esports. Silva contributed the sole silver medal, while the bronze medal haul included Abril Garzón in the Madison cycling event, Contreras in slalom, Manuel Turone in BMX, and Wanda Arca in archery.
