Ron Rivera was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma, according to the Washington Football Team

Prior to the testimony, Rivera’s cancer diagnosis was first reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The team says the cancer is in a lymph node and was discovered through a self-care check. The team also says the cancer is in its early stages and is considered “very treatable and curable, which gives Coach Rivera a good prognosis for a full recovery”.

“At the moment, Coach has asked the team to continue things as usual and stay focused, but a ‘Plan B’ is in place if it is decided that he should take time off,” the team said in a statement.

The team also posted on Twitter on Thursday night: “We love you @RiverboatRonHC. We’re all with you, Stephanie, Christopher and Courtney.”

Jason Wright, recently named president of the team, tweeted, “I’m adding my prayers for the health of innate strength and deep resilience of the mind, body and spirit from @ RiverboatRonHC.”

Rivera and his family thanked everyone for the outpouring of “love and support”.
