Exceptional Performance by Judokas from Tolosa in Euskadi Championship: Eight Medals Achieved

After their good performance in the Gipuzkoa Championship, the qualified judokas from Tolosa traveled to Bilbao to compete in the Euskadi Championship. The result was exceptional, as eight medals were achieved in total.

They say from the club that the simple fact of participating in the tournament was already a reward, but some wanted something more, a place in the Spanish championship. Only the first, that is, the champions would achieve it.

The cadets Haritz Urkiola in -50kg, AminLhiti -55kg, and Enara Leunda -48kg were close to winning the bronze medal. They passed the qualifying rounds but fell in the dispute for bronze. They deserved the medal.

On the other hand, the judokas Alex Etxart -50kg, and Ion Mateo +90kg were able to overcome said fight and won the bronze medal. Unai Arcelus -55kg, Koldo arrieta +90 and Mara Olano -44kg went a little further and were able to compete in the final. They showed themselves with a winning attitude to achieve the desired place, but it was not to be, they had to settle for a very good second place. The one who was able to finish the job was Inhar Leunda in -55 kg, winning all his fights, a gold medal and a place for the Spanish championship. Although they could not pass the qualifying rounds, Hodei Gonzalez -66kg and Pau Lopez -60kg kept the flag high.

The next day it was the children’s turn and like the cadets, they were not far behind. Asier Luque in -50kg had to abandon due to physical problems; Xabat Zabalegi at -42 won all of his fights except the last one, the one in the final, thus achieving the silver medal. Marla Belaunzaran -36kg, on the other hand, was able to win the gold medal and the subsequent place for the Spanish championship. Zorionak everyone!!

Coinciding with the schoolchildren, the two Kata specialist couples traveled to Torres Novas (Portugal) to compete in a new test for the national Kata ranking and position themselves among the top positions in the national ranking.

The couple formed by Joseba Reguillaga and Joseba Etxarri, after closing their junior stage with a sixth place in the world and a European gold, now move on to the senior category. In this first absolute experience they took third place in the box. The club’s veteran couple Unai Reguillaga and Unai Saralegui came to the event with the aim of consolidating their first place in the national ranking. They managed to climb to second place and with this ensure they reach the European Championship leading the national ranking. The club’s couples were surpassed only by the world-class couple from Extremadura.
