Colofon: Check-list for Boston | Escape H

There is no deadline that is not met… and after five years I returned to the Commencement in Boston. Here is my fav list of that postal code with the proper disclaimer: due to professional distortion I do not recommend hotels, until Grupo HABITA has one there… Just like that, by chance. #SorryNotSorry.

Art: Check! Nothing competes with the Museum of Fine Arts, home to the most avant-garde collection of contemporary art, but also quite a crash course in world art history. A gem: the work of Mark Rothko and the Cy Twombly expo. With its unparalleled history, the Isabella Gardner Museum is a great example of North American collecting and its “empty spaces” are mute reminders of when the site was the target of alien friends more than a decade ago.

Fashion: Check! My fav: Bodega, hidden in plain sight, at 6 Clearway. Newbury Street is a must in the Back Bay area with Muji and Arc’teryx. Not to be missed, Brookline with Village Vinyl & Hi-Fi and Boston General Store.

Gastronomy: Check! My favorite is Petit Robert Bistro and its French menu, as well as its incomparable view in front of the beautiful church on Columbus Avenue. KAVA, for Greek tenders, or Macha, for ramen and pho. The tradition of the taverns is at its best, especially in Barcelona or Dillon’s in an old police station. Next door, the Boston Architectural College and the old fire and police stations, designed in 1886 by Arthur Vinal and which were also the first headquarters of the Institute of Contemporary Art.

Coffee: Check! Both in the Prudential Tower’s Blue Bottle Café, and in the ever-present Tatte. Design: Check! You have to schedule a visit to the Museum of Fine Arts Boston to see its collection of furniture and applied arts. Parks: Check! Obviously, getting lost in Fenway Park, whether during a baseball game or a graduation ceremony, is a unique and unrepeatable experience. Eating lobster rolls between innings or speeches is like no other.

Architecture: Check! Here today is the preservation of the most outstanding buildings that date back to the eighteenth century. The red bricks found throughout the city are iconic and beautiful. Ranging from the National Historic Landmark Fenway Studios, erected in 1905, to the Concord Square area and the one-of-a-kind Massachusetts Horticultural Society, historic buildings give you that “I don’t know what, I don’t know…” #Goals.

Culture: Check! The home of the Boston Pops is a must-see stop right on the aptly named Symphony street. Like a stomp-and-run visit to the Frank Gehry-designed building at MIT… well, Go Red Socks!
