FEB COMMUNICATION AREA

The FEB was born on July 31, 1923 in Barcelona, originally under the name of the National Basketball Federation. Its first headquarters were located at 26 Canuda Street, which was the gymnasium run by the first president, Fidel Bricall, until 1935 when he moved permanently to Madrid. since then it has had 11 presidents, from Bricall to Jorge Garbajosa.

As manager of the development and growth of Spanish basketball throughout its century of life, the FEB has organized competitions for clubs, training teams, training coaches and referees, etc., and has been and is the representative of our basketball in international organizations.

The FEB is one of the national federations with the longest history in world basketball. Until now, only those of Uruguay (although initially in 1915 it was an association of clubs), Argentina (1921), Italy (1921) and Latvia (1920) have celebrated their respective Centenaries.

Such an extraordinary anniversary deserves an extraordinary agenda, and that is what the FEB has been preparing for several months, an agenda that will fill the entire country with basketball, sporting, promotional and recognition events, and that can somehow be considered that started just over a year ago with the inauguration of the Spanish Basketball Hall of Fame to recognize the protagonists of its 100-year history.

As an emblem of this historic Centenary, the FEB has designed a special logo, based on the evolution of the different logos in the history of the Federation until it adapted to the shape of the heart of the current one. The use of the gold color reflects the FEB’s winning and excellence vocation. It is a new symbol that looks to a hopeful future based on the successful path of the Federation’s history. To which is added the motto ‘Our History, Our Future’.

The FEB Centenary will have an exceptional institutional partner: the Junta de Andalucía. The president of the FEB, Jorge Garbajosa, and the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, Arturo Bernal, presented the historic agreement between the two entities. Garbajosa assured that “We want to do great things, activities of all kinds, of the highest level, in training, institutional events.” For his part, the Andalusian counselor was excited that “the centenary of the FEB will be a celebration of Spanish basketball, it will go far beyond sport and entertainment.”

Start a year that appears magical.
