football world cupThe players of Saudi Arabia who ensured a miracle victory against Argentina at the World Cup have not received a Rolls Roys Phantom at all. That news went viral a few days after the match, but is now denied by the chairman of the Saudi Football Association. “They played for the pride of the nation.”

The wealthy Saudi crown prince Mohammad bin Salman al-Saud would have given the 26 players of the selection such a car as a bonus for a price tag of 13 million euros. Could have been: the man’s total wealth is estimated at 596 billion euros. But in an interview with the Spanish Marca, Yasser Al Misehal says that rumor is not correct.
“No no no. Our players did it because they are proud to represent their country. They were honored and lucky to play for Saudi Arabia in a historic match. Of course they got a bonus for that victory, but that was a normal amount that was discussed in advance. Our players don’t do it for that bonus, but for the country. They wrote their own history: many of those players are now famous.”
Al Misehal also gave an update on the injury of Al-Shahrani, who came into contact with his own goalkeeper in the end of that famous match and had to be removed. “Luckily he is doing well now. Because he was in bad shape. Not only was his face badly hit, he also had something to do with a rib and the pancreas and especially the latter was terrifying. After three surgeries he is now recovering and doing well at home. Hopefully we can see him back on the field soon.”
At the request of King Salman, Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman al-Saud declared November 23, the day after the stunt victory, a national holiday. No one had to go to work or school the day after the 2-1.
