France’s record goalscorer Olivier Giroud is leaving AC Milan and moving to the American soccer league MLS.

The move of France’s record goalscorer Olivier Giroud to the American soccer league MLS to the Los Angeles Football Club is perfect. The 37-year-old comes from AC Milan and has a contract in California until 2025 with the option of a further year, as his new employer announced on Tuesday.

Giroud had already announced his departure from Milan on Monday (May 13, 2024) in an emotional interview on the club’s own TV station. The striker said the next two games would be his last with Milan. “My career will continue in MLS,” said Giroud. However, he did not yet name his upcoming club.

Milan always in my heart

The French international, who has so far played 131 international matches in which he scored 57 times, has been with AC Milan since 2021, with whom he became Italian football champions in 2022. He is very proud of everything he has done in Milan over the past three years.

“My story with Milan ends this year, but Milan will forever be in my heart,” said Giroud, who won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2019.

He will play the final games of the season with the team second in the table at FC Turin and on May 26th in front of their home crowd against US Salernitana.
