(Bückeburg) After an eventful season, the Bückeburg Buccaneers made it into the final of the PlayOffs of the Lower Saxony Baseball Championship.

“We were able to earn the first 2 game days as a split, i.e. a win and a loss on one game day. Then followed a cancellation of the Lüneburg Woodlarks. These games are always scored against the canceling club. That’s how we crept into first place after 3 match days,” reports baseball trainer Adrian Staaks from VfL Bückeburg.

This was followed by the return day against the Göttingen Allstars, which the Bückeburgers clearly had to cede to the Göttingen team 11:1 in the first game, but then won the second game 12:14. Two bitter defeats followed against the bottom of the table, the Bremen Dockers, which according to Staaks shouldn’t have been like this: “Due to many mistakes in our defense and due to the opponent’s very strong defense, we lost both quite clearly. It became clear that we had to position ourselves better if we didn’t want to be overtaken by the Wolfsburg Blackbirds and relegated to third place on the next matchday.”

The game day against the Wolfsburg Blackbirds was also a “split”. Some important regular players could not play here, so they were weakened by replacements. Also due to the sending off of the 3rd pitcher in the 2nd game against Göttingen. He argued too much with the referee and was sent off as a result. Sometimes bitching is enough.

“Meanwhile in 3rd place, we couldn’t turn the tide after the summer break. In the ex-training we lost the first of two games of the day in Lüneburg by a run difference. The second also went to Lüneburg. As a result, we slipped to the penultimate place, ahead of Bremen,” the coach continued.

After a long shot into left field by Louis Schmidt, Enno Meyer advances from second base to third base to home.

At the end of August, the Bückeburg baseball players were only able to score 2 splits against the Braunschweig 89ers and the Bremen Dockers, which put them within striking distance of fourth place. held by the Wolfsburg Blackbirds. These could then be defeated quite clearly twice. As a result, the local team made it into the playoffs.

In the semi-finals of the Lower Saxony Championship, the Buccaneers were able to kick the table leaders out of the race 8:1 in the scheduled single game of 9 innings. The Lüneburg Woodlarks, who had to play 2nd place against 3rd place, won their game.

“We are now in the final on October 9th. against the Lüneburg Woodlarks for the Lower Saxony championship,” says Staaks happily, “for both teams of SG Ricklingen/Bückeburg this event is the biggest success in the club’s history so far!” (pr/Photo: pr)
