Icing

In ice hockey, icing is an infraction committed when a player shoots the puck over the center red line, or the red goal line of the opposing team, without scoring a goal. The puck remains untouched after crossing the goal line.

Goalie

The goaltender plays in the goal crease and prevents the puck from entering the team’s net. A goaltender is an important player on the ice hockey rink, and is the most important position on the ice.

Sudden-death periods

Sudden death periods are played between the teams during a game, in which no team scores in regulation time. In the NHL, the period of sudden death can last up to five minutes, or longer if the game is tied. In addition, games in the postseason are not subject to sudden death, and they will instead be played in a 20-minute overtime session, with teams skating to the net until one score is scored.

Substitutions

Substitutions in ice hockey are very important because tired players are often at a disadvantage and need to play against a fresh line from the opposing team. Also, there are certain rules regarding ice hockey substitutions. Players are not allowed to touch the puck during a change, which can result in a penalty. Substitutions also help keep the game exciting and fast-paced.
