woke up by rookie Nunez, Liverpool start with a draw at Fulham

Abused at Craven Cottage, Liverpool could not bring back better than a small point from their inaugural trip to the promoted Londoner.

Complicated start for Liverpool. Dolphins Manchester City for a small point last year, the Reds started with a draw on the lawn of Fulham (2-2). Second division champions last year, the Londoners were put into orbit by their home striker, Aleksandar Mitrovic, from the head (32nd). Top scorer in the Championship last year (43 goals in 43 matches), the Serb will do it again by converting a penalty he himself caused against Van Dijk (72nd).

Meanwhile, Darwin Nunez, who came into play after the break (51st), needed less than a quarter of an hour to stand out, with a subtle heel on a service from Mohamed Salah (64th). The Uruguayan, the Reds’ flagship rookie, will return the favor to the Egyptian, who will equalize closely for Jürgen Klopp’s men (80th).

Liverpool are (already) losing points

The Reds had not failed in their first game of the season since 2017 and a 3-3 against Watford. Another failure today for the men of Jürgen Klopp who still marks a happy point. Dominated in the first half, the Reds managed to wake up in the 60th minute to respond to Mitrovic and the Cottagers. Firmino, Fabinho, and Thiago Alcântara were invisible… Alexander-Arnold, Virgil Van Dijk and Alisson were particularly bad.

Fulham carried by the Pereira-Mitrovic doublet

For the Cottagers, this draw is almost synonymous with victory. Attractive in the game, Marco Silva’s men made the Premier League vice-champion doubt. Author of a double, the Serb Mitrovic is obviously the man of the match on the side of Fulham, but he was well helped by his friend Andreas Pereira. The Brazilian didn’t score but was particularly interesting this afternoon.
