Tolima defeats Mineiro and is in the second round of Libertadores

Deportes Tolima arrived at the Mineirao stadium with the purpose of looking for a victory or a draw to advance to the second round of the Copa Libertadores. He was facing a tough rival who had already beaten him at the Manuel Murillo Toro and wanted revenge.

The first half of the match was intense, with scoring options for both teams, with a clear one for the locals that hit the crossbar through Rubens and with which the Colombian team was saved from seeing their goal violated.

Although Tolima had the ball and wanted to impose conditions in the first few minutes, he finished the first half defending himself and with his forwards having no influence on the game. The visitors went to rest without generating football.

On the premises, meanwhile, the best was the Argentine Nacho Fernández who gave mobility to his team and through him they recovered and they put together the Mineiro’s attack plays. However, the first half ended goalless.

Triumph of Tolima in Brazil

In the second half, Tolima came out timidly and it seemed that they would follow the same line as the end of the first 45 minutes. Hulk and Rubens disturbed Domínguez’s goal, but at minute 55 the visitors celebrated.

With a header, Michael Rangel opened the scoring after a good collective play by Hernán Torres’ team. The striker only had to push the cross that Andrés Ibargüen put on him to beat Everson and put his team on top.

After the goal, the Mineiro wanted to recover and started looking for the equalizer. Fernández was still essential for his team, just like Hulk, but in Tolima there was the goalkeeper Domínguez who gave confidence to his team throughout the game.

But in the 88th minute, a goalkeeper error gave Mohamed’s team an equalizer. Sasha spliced it after a rebound that Domínguez gave in the area and with a powerful shot he beat him. Tolima clung to defensive play with his mind in the other group match.

In that, Independiente del Valle beat América Mineiro 3 goals to zero and if they scored another goal or Mineiro won, they qualified. But after Domínguez’s mistake came Tolima’s second. Lucumí and Rangel created a nice play when the local defense was played. In the end, Jeison just pushed her to celebrate the final 1-2.
