JL Bourg wants to participate in the EuroCup in 2022-2023

On the club’s Youtube channel, Julien Desbottes, president of the Secular Youth of Bourg-en-Bresse, took stock of the 2021-2022 season. Despite a complicated and disappointing season, which ended in 11th place in Betclic ELITE with a record of 15 wins and 19 losses and elimination from the EuroCup at the end of the group stage, the Burgian president once again wants to play the Europe and participate in the EuroCup for the coming season.

“Europe, we are working on it. When we have tasted it, we want to go back. Given the global geopolitical context, places will probably be vacant. If the formats of the EuroLeague and EuroCup remain the same, I think that we have a serious chance of participating in this competition (the EuroCup), given what we have shown in recent years. We will have to fill these empty seats. We are working and making the necessary efforts to send signals that demonstrate that we still have our place next year.”

Indeed, if the exclusion of Russian clubs (CSKA Moscow, Unics Kazan, Zénith St-Petersburg and Lokomotiv Kuban) from EuroLeague and EuroCup persists next year, they will have to be replaced. Wildcards will therefore be awarded more easily for the coming season, it remains to be seen whether the LNB will recover one. While Elan Béarnais and Paris Basketball also want to play in Europe next season, places will be very limited. Appointed adviser to the president, François Lamy takes care of this aspect in particular, he who has worked in collaboration with the EuroLeague in recent years, at ASVEL then at Zalgiris Kaunas.
