Johnny Cueto is back in the big leagues, this time with the Chicago White Sox.
Cueto, 36, was recalled from Charlotte (AAA) on Monday, and the right-hander is expected to start Game 1 of a five-game Kansas City series.
For his part, infielder Danny Mendick was returned to the AAA level.
Cueto agreed to a minor league contract with the White Sox in April. His contract includes a salary of four million dollars in Major League Baseball and a salary of $210,000 in the minor leagues.
He was 0-1 with a 5.17 ERA in four starts with Charlotte.
Cueto spent the previous six seasons with San Francisco, going 7-7 with a 4.08 ERA in 22 games, including 21 as a starter with the Giants last year.
Cueto began his career with Cincinnati in 2008. He is 135-97 with a 3.45 ERA in his first 14 major league years.
