During the next African Cup of Nations, which will be played from January 9 to February 6, 2022, Liverpool will be particularly weakened. The Reds, in the race for the Premier League title, will be deprived of midfielder Naby Keita (Guinea) and their forwards Mohamed Salah (Egypt) and Sadio Mané (Senegal).

Three players who should notably miss the shocks against Leicester City (December 28) and Chelsea (December 2), unless the English club sees its approach succeed. Indeed, Liverpool requested the federations of its African internationals to obtain authorization to release them only after the trip to Stamford Bridge, a week after the scheduled date.

“It is not yet decided, said the manager of the Reds Jürgen Klopp. I am an optimist, so I hope so. But it is not recorded and it does not depend on us.” Protected by FIFA, the federations concerned are free to accept or refuse Liverpool’s request.
