Universal Announces New Indoor Roller Coaster for Epic Universe’s Dark Universe

Universal Orlando Announces New Indoor Coaster for Dark Universe

Universal Epic Universe is moving forward with its next major expansion just over a year after welcoming its first visitors to the Florida resort, announcing plans to build a brand-new indoor roller coaster inside the park’s monster-themed land. Construction is already underway on the thrill attraction, which will sit directly adjacent to the existing dark ride Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment in the gothic village of Darkmoor.

What Universal Has Confirmed About the Attraction

Universal Orlando Resort officials have kept specific ride mechanics and storyline details under wraps, but the company stated via press release that the upcoming coaster will immerse guests in an all-new narrative inspired by the classic movie studio monsters franchise. While long-standing fan rumors have frequently pointed toward a Creature from the Black Lagoon concept, resort representatives have not confirmed the specific character focus of the new track. The company noted that the opening is planned for the years ahead, leaving a precise debut date unannounced.

Broader Expansion Plans Across the Orlando Resort

Universal Studios Florida is preparing to open a reworked Universal Horror Make-Up Show in collaboration with Blumhouse later this year, alongside the high-speed Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift coaster slated to launch in 2027. Meanwhile, Universal Islands of Adventure will introduce a new Jurassic Park-themed, full-service restaurant in 2027, and the Universal CityWalk entertainment district will add Luke Combs’ Category 10 music venue by the end of that same year.

Epic Universe Expands Resort Property Footprint Since 1990

The latest project adds to a sprawling property footprint that began with the opening of Universal Studios Florida in 1990, followed by Islands of Adventure in 1999 and the Volcano Bay water park in 2017. Epic Universe opened in 2025 as the resort’s newest theme park gate, featuring five distinct immersive worlds: Nintendo, Harry Potter, a How to Train Your Dragon film franchise area, the star-themed Celestial Park, and the horror-focused Dark Universe.
