Trump Invites UFC CEO Dana White to Be White House Press Secretary

United States President Donald Trump announced on social media that he has invited Ultimate Fighting Championship President Dana White to serve as White House press secretary, m.guancha.cn reported on November 8, 2026.

The list of requested assistant figures includes Islam Makhachev and Khabib Nurmagomedov from Dagestan, along with American athletes Justin Gaethje, Daniel Cormier, and Kayla Harris. Amanda Nunes, born in Brazil and who became a United States citizen last year, was also named. Reuters reported that the reference to Kayla Harris likely points to American judoka and mixed martial artist Kayla Harrison.

“We need these people to protect us against the crazy left,” Trump wrote in the social media post.

Response and Vacancy Status at the White House

CNN reported, citing sources, that White declined the invitation from the president. Reuters noted that neither White nor UFC parent company TKO Group Holdings responded immediately to requests for comment.

The White House press secretary position has remained vacant since conservative commentator Katie Zacharia stepped down in October after serving for less than one week. Zacharia had succeeded Karoline Leavitt, who left the administration at the end of August.

Longstanding Ties Between Trump and the Fighting Organization

White and Trump established their working relationship in the early 2000s, when Trump’s Taj Mahal casino hosted several early UFC events. Their alliance strengthened after White publicly endorsed Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign.

Trump has attended multiple live UFC events in recent years. In June, the White House hosted a UFC Fight Night event as part of the country’s 250th anniversary celebrations. Steven Cheung, the current White House communications director, previously served as a spokesperson for the UFC.
