Tran Thanh Quy Prepares for National Sports Games

“Mi mayor objetivo es ganar mi primera medalla individual en los Juegos y, al mismo tiempo, esforzarme por alcanzar el nivel de atleta máster,” stated 23-year-old archer Tran Thanh Quy as he prepares for his third appearance at the National Sports Games.

Training Rigor at the Can Tho Training Center

Located in the Soc Trang district, the training facility serves as the base where athletes from the Phu Tam commune and surrounding areas spend their weeks executing three daily sessions covering morning, noon, and afternoon blocks. Archers must maintain a rigorous schedule because even brief training interruptions can diminish shooting sensitivity and stability. The training regimen includes local conditioning supplemented by a specialized training camp in Ba Ria – Vung Tau to adapt to outdoor elements. According to Thanh Quy, exposure to real-world weather variables such as sunlight, wind, and spatial differences remains essential for executing precise shots during tournament play.

Squad Composition and Roster Adjustments

The Can Tho archery squad features 10 athletes and two coaches competing in men’s and women’s recurve events. The roster evolved primarily from the former Soc Trang archery team, incorporating additional talent following a regional merger that brought in three competitors from the former Hau Giang team—including one youth competitor and two skilled athletes. Initial projections pointed toward silver medal targets, but coaching evaluations of squad strengths prompted management to raise the competitive objective to gold. The competition roster spans 32 distinct events covering both recurve and compound disciplines under the official regulations of the X National Sports Games.

Team Coordination and Collective Strength

Coaching staff have shifted primary emphasis toward the men’s and women’s team events, where synchronization dictates success. Coach Nguyen Dinh Hai noted that team matches demand precise coordination and steady execution from every member, requiring individual athletes to maximize their respective scoring contributions. To build this collective cohesion, the team scheduled extended training blocks alongside visiting sports squads currently conditioning in Vung Tau before the official tournament window opens.

Competition Schedule at Lam Son Stadium

The X National Sports Games archery program runs from November 20 through November 30 at Lam Son Stadium in the Vung Tau ward of Ho Chi Minh City. Individual distance events—covering the 90m, 70m, 50m, and 30m categories—are scheduled from November 23 to November 25. Qualification rounds and team medal matches take place from November 27 to November 29.
