La Télé Vaud-Fribourg will broadcast between 20 and 25 Swiss basketball games per season under a new partnership with Swiss Basketball. The agreement, which covers both the men’s and women’s leagues, ensures that top-tier domestic matchups will be available to viewers for free, starting in January 2027.
The deal marks a significant expansion of the regional broadcaster’s sports coverage, which already includes the National League for ice hockey. According to reporting by La Télé, the commercial partnership is set for the remainder of the current term with an option to extend for the following two seasons.
SBL Cup 2027 marks the broadcast debut
The collaboration officially kicks off on January 23 and 24, 2027, during the SBL Cup in Clarens. La Télé has a long-standing history with the event, having broadcast the tournament for over a decade. The upcoming coverage will feature both men’s semifinal games on Saturday, followed by the women’s and men’s finals on Sunday.

Roland Guex, director of special operations at the channel, stated that the network is pleased to secure exclusive rights that allow them to offer these games to basketball fans at no cost. He noted that this move strengthens the station’s identity as a sports-focused outlet following their entry into ice hockey broadcasting two years ago.
Broadcasters select matchups dynamically based on standings
While the specific broadcast schedule remains flexible, the channel and the federation intend to select games based on league standings, team performance, and regional representation. The decision-making process will remain dynamic throughout the season to ensure the most attractive matchups are highlighted.

The playoff structure on La Télé will include a complete series of men’s quarterfinals and a full set of semifinals. The network has committed to broadcasting the entirety of both the men’s and women’s championship finals live. Swiss Basketball president Andrea Siviero noted that the increased visibility provided by these broadcasts will benefit clubs, players, and sponsors alike.
Support from La Mobilière
The project is supported by La Mobilière, which serves as the primary partner for this initiative. By providing free-to-air access to the Swiss Basketball League (SBL) and the Swiss Basketball League Women (SBLW), the partnership aims to reach a wider audience across Switzerland.
The next confirmed event for the partnership is the SBL Cup, scheduled to take place on January 23 and 24, 2027, in Clarens.
