Suizhou Hosts Xiangyang Metropolitan Circle Community Sports Games

Nearly 500 sports enthusiasts from Xiangyang, Shiyan, Shennongjia Forest District, and Suizhou converged at the Qixing Fitness Village in Suizhou for the 2026 Hubei Xiangyang Metropolitan Circle Community Sports Games. Spanning three days from Oct. 30 to Nov. 1, the event featured 49 delegations competing across 14 events designed to promote grassroots fitness and neighborhood camaraderie.

Four-City Delegations Compete in 14 Events

The competition program balanced traditional sports with recreational activities, featuring six competitive events and eight fun categories. Athletes of all age groups, ranging from youths to seniors, participated in table tennis, badminton, three-on-three basketball, square dancing, health Qigong, and Tai Chi. Meanwhile, the recreational side drew enthusiastic participation in shuttlecock kicking, rope skipping, and dryland dragon boat racing.

Grassroots Sports Foster Regional Ties

On the competitive floor, table tennis and badminton players traded fast-paced shots and overhead smashes, while three-on-three basketball squads relied on tight defensive rotations and fast breaks. In the recreational events, teams synchronized their cadence in dryland dragon boat races and locked into intense tug-of-war battles as spectators cheered from the sidelines.

“We played to make friends through the sport, which not only improved our skills but also helped us connect with like-minded people,” said Wu Xiaoxia, a member of the Zengdu District badminton team.

Fitness Carnival and Health Monitoring Offerings

Alongside the tournament matches, organizers hosted a sports carnival featuring national physical fitness testing stations. Social sports instructors provided on-site athletic guidance and science-based fitness lectures for competitors and local residents alike. Cultural exhibitions showcasing Suizhou intangible heritage and local cuisine ran concurrently with the athletic fixtures, blending fitness culture with regional community life.

Provincial sports officials noted that the regional community games serve as a practice ground for advancing public fitness brands across Hubei’s urban circles, utilizing sport as a bridge to integrate fitness and health initiatives into daily community life.
